Maple & her twelve puppies are doing very well. As most of you may have noticed from our Facebook updates, Maple was bred to Moose this Spring. Their litter of 7 females & 5 males was born on May 22nd. They are two weeks old and growing like weeds weighing in around 1¾ lbs.
The puppies are beginning to show signs that they are now able to hear as their ears are developing further and they are also reacting to sounds in their area. Some pups have one eye opening, some have both, and some puppies are still shut tight. Within the next few days, they will all have their eyes open and begin working on lifting themselves up in an effort to walk in their whelping box.
Next week, we will begin preliminary potty training lessons and learn how to play. Play is very important for puppy development and assists with not only their social skills but also their coordination skills.
Maple will continue to feed her pups until they are just shy of 4 weeks old. Maple is an excellent mother and instills much confidence in her pups. Her litter is a nice mixture of wire coat, soft coat and sheepcoat airedales.

Mugo & Perch's ten puppies are doing very well. Mugo is a very proud and protective mother. Mugo's litter of 6 females & 4 males was born on May 24th, just two days after Maple's.
As this is Mugo's first litter, she is taking her job quite seriously, not allowing ANY dogs in or near her puppies. Even when Mama picks up a pup, Mugo has this look of "What are you doing?!?! You're not going to hurt it, are you?!?" haha. A little reassurance goes a long way with her.
Mugo's is a Maple x Moose airedale so there are some strong similarities in the litters- they are all extremely healthy, happy and thick. Much to our surprise, Mugo's genes seemingly dominated Perch's with this litter and we've been blessed with 10 little curlyhaired piglets. These pups are going to be wonderful dogs. Out of this litter, a majority of them are sheepcoat airedales, there is one wire coat for sure and the rest are seemingly sheepcoats.
Mugo's pups will begin gaining thier vision and hearing over the next few days. Right now, they are making lots of different purring and cooing noises that can be heard around the clock.
